Meet The MAS Team
MAS employees are a team of skilled and talented professionals, dedicated to providing quality results.
Our mission is to provide expert analytical solutions to our clients with integrity and confidentiality.
Dr. Bill Longo is a Materials Scientist/Electron Microscopist who specializes in the analysis of asbestos-containing materials. In 1983, he founded Micro Analytical Laboratories, which became one of the first commercial labs in the country to provide Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM) analysis of asbestos-containing air and dust samples. In 1987, Dr. Longo became president of Materials Analytical Services. Under his guidance, MAS grew into a leading laboratory in the fields of chemical analysis and materials characterization for a number of industries including: occupational health safety, environmental, engineering services, industrial hygiene, and building and construction materials. Bill is currently the CEO of MAS.
Jane Martin first joined Materials Analytical Services in 1994 progressing from Technician to Scientist in FTIR, XRF, and SEM. Her BS in Applied Sciences (Chemistry with additional focuses on Polymers, Materials Science, and Physics) from The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill allowed her a broad scientific and analytical knowledge base. She returned to MAS in 2017 as the Vice President of Operations at the Suwanee, Georgia site. Today she serves as the President of MAS.
Martin has over 30 years in environmental field with expertise in indoor air quality, sustainability, LEED/Green Globes Product Compliance, chemical off-gassing, odor issues, asbestos, lead, mold, radon, EMF, industrial hygiene, disaster response, Phase I/II ESAs, soil & ground water contamination. Today Martin designs and implements custom work practice studies and other experiments for a wide variety of clients.
Bill Egeland is a professional geologist/mineralogist who has been a Senior Consultant since 2009 and with MAS for over 30 years. He is an expert at optical, transmission electron and scanning electron microscopy and specializes in asbestos products as well as in the analysis of asbestos exposure throughout the US. He has worked to solve industrial hygiene and indoor air quality problems throughout his career at MAS.
Dr. Tom Schamp is a Materials Scientist who specializes in analytical transmission electron microscopy and other microscopic and microanalytical x-ray methods. Tom has experience as an applications scientist and as lead TEM analyst in the commercial analytical lab space. In Tom’s current role with MAS, he uses his technical knowledge to bridge the needs of clients with the capabilities of the lab and supports the lab’s electron microscopy group.
Freda Shaw joined MAS in 2019 to lead the Chemistry Department. She has over 15 years of scientific experience including analytical and managerial roles in service laboratories. Freda specializes in logistics, efficiency, and quality improvements while providing technical and analytical guidance to the members of the Chemistry Department at MAS.
